It’s Monday!

And with it being the beginning of a new month we have lots to cover. Let’s get right into it.

Annual Water Quality Survey

Aquasana just dropped their 7th annual water quality survey which reveals steady but significant growth in American water concerns, with PFAS and microplastics climbing the worry list. The 2025 survey of 1,000+ adults shows year-over-year increases in several key areas. Lead concern rose from 24% to 26%, PFAS jumped from 10% to 11% (moving from 5th to 3rd position), and PFAS awareness grew from 49% to 54%. While these annual changes seem small, they represent longer-term trends: PFAS concerns have grown 4x since 2020, and microplastics jumped 400% from 2023. On top of that, writer Rachel Carollo from Aquasana highlights a scary disconnect: 34% still trust bottled water most despite 66% knowing it contains microplastics.

Rainwater Harvester

In this month’s WCP Online profile the team talks to PerfectWater founder Denis Rochat who has carved out a unique niche in Appalachian rainwater harvesting. The Knoxville-based company serves the mountainous region where annual rainfall of 55-77 inches makes rainwater harvesting both practical and essential for remote homes with limited well access. Rochat's business story includes a pivot as well: when the 2008 recession hit traditional water treatment sales, he attended a rainwater harvesting conference and transformed his company. He landed major projects like a University of Tennessee installation with four 20,000-gallon tanks serving 1,400 students and a chicken hatchery system that reduced municipal water demand by 90%. Rochat emphasizes the appeal of rainwater to customers who "love the water right out of nature's 'big distiller in the sky,'" noting that a typical home can easily be supplied by the region's abundant rainfall when properly captured and filtered.

Opportunity for Smart Solutions

Bluefield Research breaks down what they believe is a massive opportunity emerging in residential water management, driven by rising costs and quality concerns that are pushing homeowners toward smart solutions. The research firm notes that water bills have jumped 4.4% annually from 2019-2024, now averaging $125.08 monthly, while 31.2% of US public water systems violated the Safe Drinking Water Act in 2024, creating perfect conditions for residential water treatment growth. The smart home water sector is particularly hot, with leak detection systems gaining traction thanks to insurance company rebates and utility partnerships. The team highlights the growing demand for residential filtration technologies including reverse osmosis, UV disinfection, and water softening as homeowners seek control over water quality amid PFAS and lead contamination concerns.

Long Island EcoWater

Long Island Clean Water Service Inc. is looking to establish themselves as the local EcoWater experts while also educating customers about the environmental and health benefits of their filtration systems. The company's latest piece emphasizes how EcoWater's multi-stage filtration technology (activated carbon and reverse osmosis) can be customized for Long Island's specific water conditions. They're hitting sustainability messaging hard, noting that EcoWater systems reduce plastic bottle waste and offer energy-efficient operation. The company covers practical maintenance details like six-month filter replacement schedules and troubleshooting common issues including reduced water flow and strange tastes. The piece repeatedly drives toward professional consultation and installation services, positioning the company as essential for optimal system performance.
